Dipstick for 2013+ 3.0 TDI Q5/A6/A7/A8 (Aftermarket)
This dipstick is compatible with 2013+ CPNB/CPNA engine code Only
This dipstick is not compatible with CNRB or CATA engine code. Using it will cause you to overfill the engine oil by >1L.
First in the world (actually second, but that doesn’t sound as good) dipstick for vehicles with CPNB/CPNA engine with 6.4L oil pan.
This includes all 2013+ Q5, A6, A7, and A8 in the US, as well as Gen2/3 A-series, Q5, and SQ5 overseas.
This allows you to change your oil like a normal person instead of staring at the MMI for “2 minutes” (feels like 2 hours)
Why is this needed?
As you may know, there was no OEM dipstick for the Q5 and A-series, but there is for the Touareg/Q7 (and technically Cayenne, though the handle has to be modified to work with stock engine cover).
The OEM part for that is 059115611AM.
The reason is because VAG hates us and wants us to be miserable.
There is nothing short enough, even from the early 2.7L/3.0L Gen1 engines (which is actually longer than 059115611AM).
The issue preventing us from using 059115611AM is that its actually much longer (22mm) than it needs to be for the CPNB, and this difference in length is actually longer than the entire range of the dipstick blade.
This means the Max mark on the dipstick is actually not even the MIN oil fill for a CPNB car!
So basically to use it, youd have to know exactly how far above max it is, and its actually so high its the very top of the ball, so its nearly useless other than as an indication that there is some oil in the pan.
I am personally sick of seeing posts asking for dipstick for the CPNB/A cars, so here it is.
Using Erwin data and physical measurements on local CPNB vehicles, I determined how much shorter exactly it needed to be to have a truly-accurate Max/Min levels. Basically its 22mm or 24mm, depending on how you want to to center the range or match Max.
Even though Erwin says the total range is 12mm, in my testing, 16mm exactly matches the MMI range.
I worked with a supplier of aftermarket dipsticks for VAG platform vehicles to make these, with a better and correctly-sized O-ring than what is sold on the market so it seals just like OEM and doesn’t tear
The quality of this dipstick is similar to MTC/Rein aftermarket
What is the difference between Genuine and this dipstick?
The materials and construction are the same: Nylon Blade and handle overmolded on a nylon-coated fiberglass rod, with a Viton70 Oring 4.9x2mm
The key differences are
- Blade color are slightly different shades of gray.
- Handle does not have bead-blasted rough finish on aftermarket
- Toolpaths faintly visible on flat parts of the handle on aftermarket
- Aftermarket rod is less flexible.
- Blade face may not be parallel with handle face (literally doesn’t matter its just ugly)
